Heart disease also called Cardiovascular disease, involves the heart or the blood vessels including both arteries and veins. Some of the risk factors for heart disease include age, gender and family history of this disease. High cholesterol and high blood pressure may also play a factor for people suffering from heart disease. Of course smoking also increases the risks of developing this often deadly disease. Additionally being overweight or physical inactive, having insomnia, diabetes, and high homocyteine levels have also been identified as factors that are associated with increased risks factors for cardiovascular disease.
A multi-vitamin has been defined as a supplement which contains three or more vitamins and minerals but lacks herbs, drugs, or hormones. A multi-vitamin is intended to supplement a person’s diet with nutritional elements.
According to a recent study, women who supplement their diet with a multi-vitamin may reduce their risk for a heart attack by 27 percent compared to other women not taking any multi-vitamins. It also found that participants who took a multi-vitamin along with other supplements actually had a 30 percent reduction in their risk for heart disease. Using supplements for over five years (long-term use) was more strongly linked with reduction of heart attack risks, but no real differences were noted between regular and occasional multi-vitamins users. The study results seem to suggest that women may be able to reduce their risks of having a heart attack by supplementing their diet with a multi-vitamin supplement.
