For over 17 years, the Santa Clarita Ballet Company has been bringing ballet to Santa Clarita’s stage, building a rich cultural arts base for our community. The June shows have become as much a community tradition as the Nutcracker performances in December. This year, presented for the first time, Peter Pan will premier as the newest addition to the Santa Clarita Ballet Company’s extensive repertoire of classic and contemporary works for ballet. Choreographer Pam Sosa has transformed the story of Peter Pan into an exquisite piece for classic ballet, highlighting the meticulous training and skill of Academy students whose ages range from as young as seven years old through high school-age teens who are on track to make dance a serious part of their future.
Peter Pan will be a delightful and entertaining ballet production, with music, costumes, and characters that will perhaps bring about a new way to enjoy a story loved by so many. Imagine Wendy dancing along with her darling brothers as they discover a land filled with pirates, indians, mermaids, and, of course, the lost boys. Come see who will dance the part of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, and find out what happens when they encounter Captain Hook. Come meet the neverbird, the fish, the fairies, the starfish, and birds who help bring this story to life! Who will dance the role of Princess Tigerlilly? And, do you think Nana will be there, too? Come, find out!
As part of this production, Santa Clarita Ballet’s upper level company dancers will perform a new short work in Act Two following Peter Pan. This new work is choreographed by artistic director, Carol Guidry and is presented in the neo-classical ballet style set to music by renowned minimalist composer Arvo Part. The upper level company dancers provide a wonderful opportunity for our audience to experience professional-level ballet in our own community.
There will be two shows on Saturday. The matinee show is at 2 p.m. and the evening show is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale May 1. Advanced ticket purchase is highly recommended as shows do sell out quickly. Tickets are not sold through the Performing Arts Center for this event. For tickets, please call the Santa Clarita Ballet Company directly at 661-251-0366.
