On January 2, The American Taxpayer Relief Act (ATRA) of 2012 was signed into law by President Barack Obama, the day after it was passed by the United States Congress. The Act addresses the expiration of our 2011 tax code provisions, most of which were known as the “Bush tax cuts.” While the ATRA of 2012 does avoid the dreaded “fiscal cliff” that we were headed for, it also provides for tax increases for nearly every American. Regardless of your income level, there are many provisions of the ATRA that will affect your after-tax income.
