Celebrate in Style

We’re entering a big season for style with upcoming graduations and weddings.  We just had prom season, and like most special events, we want to look fabulous and in-trend for the occasion.
Graduation hairstyles for 2013 include curls of all shapes and sizes.  When thinking about hairstyles, you want to consider the cap you are going to wear because you don’t want to feel uncomfortable.  Avoid hairstyles that will be too hard to manage throughout your activities.

Frizzy Versus Curly! Calling all Curly Girls Once Again…

Recently we found the need to explore and ask questions like “Why is curly hair fizzy and why is curly hair harder to cut and color?”
The answers we discovered were that many people get overwhelmed with their curly hair due to the frizz and end up hating their hair in the process.  Also, most stylists don’t know or understand the “curly girl” and her hair.  Curly hair is very different than straight hair.  It is drier and more fragile than straight hair.  It tends to break more due to all the weak points and the dryness creating more frizzes.  Most importantly there are four curly types that can be found in the curly world.  The first is S-wavy, straight/wave.

The Perfect Gift for Dads!

The tradition of celebrating Father’s Day began as early as 1909 in Washington State.  Mrs. John Dodd wanted to celebrate dads and proposed to create a special day to honor her own father.  William Smart, her father, was a civil war veteran whose wife had died while giving birth to their sixth child.  Mrs. Dodd’s vision became a success and on June 19th, 1910, the very first Father’s Day celebration was held in Spokane, Washington.

Summer Extension and Hair Care 101

As every one knows, the sunrays during the summer months cause damage not only to skin but to hair as well.  Sun damage to the hair may cause fading in your hair color or causing dry and brittle hair.  The UV-rays may cause permanent damage to hair if your hair is not taken care of properly.  If you are planning to stay in the sun for a while, be sure to use a protective sunscreen on your hair before stepping out.
If you are in the sun and you have extensions, your extensions needs extra hydration.  Use six ounces of water and two ounces of your best hydrating condition and combine in a spray bottle and spray onto extensions.
Avoid using additional heat on your hair, meaning make the least use of blow drying hair or curling irons and remember to condition your hair before you do so.

Would You Get Permanent Makeup?

Wouldn’t it be nice to wake up every morning with your makeup perfect, already in place?  If you want to eliminate this extra step from your morning routine, you may have considered getting a cosmetic procedure known as micropigmentation, or permanent makeup, or “makeup tattoo.”  As with any cosmetic enhancement, there are risks and benefits to receiving a permanent makeup treatment.
Who can have a permanent makeup application?

Hair Removal on a String

Threading hair is an ancient method commonly practiced in Eastern countries, like Egypt and India, but is becoming very popular here in the West.  Threading removes the entire hair follicle, lasting up to six weeks.  A cotton thread is pulled along unwanted hair in a twisting motion, to trap hair in a mini lasso, and lifts hair right out of the follicle.
Threading is extremely sanitary.  Nothing but the thread touches the skin, and it’s thrown away after use.  Threading has this amazing ability to be so concise in the hair that it removes.  It’s sworn by people who say they can never get their eyebrows even… despite tweezing, waxing or sugaring.

All About Collagen

Collagen is the substance that gives our skin its elasticity.  It is essential to keep our skin from sagging and forming jowls, nasolabial folds and marionette lines at the corners of the mouth.  Collagen also keeps our pores from expanding and the face from appearing “crepy.”  Without collagen we form fine lines and wrinkles, like crow’s feet and forehead lines.
Fibroblasts in our skin are responsible for collagen production.  In most of us this process stops at age 35 unless these cells [fibroblasts] are stimulated.
