The Right Shoes for the Right Summer Fit

One of the joys of running is its simplicity.  The only true cost is shoes.  Most people have initial shock when it comes to the price of quality shoes.  However, it is easy to see what can happen when one runs constantly on old worn down shoes.  The body aches more, at the end of the day the body is far more tired, making longer rest times a necessity to prevent the gradual break down of joints, muscles, and tendons.  Plantar fasciitis anyone?

As a healthcare provider, I am a huge advocate of yoga because of its positive physiological effects on the systems of the body.  Cardiovascular disease, which affects over 70 million Americans, continues to be the number one killer in the U.S.  Several trials have found that yoga can lower blood pressure, cholesterol, and resting heart rates, and help slow the progression of atherosclerosis—all risk factors for heart disease, says Erin Olivo, PhD, director of Columbia University’s Integrative Medicine Program.
