Aspiring young filmmakers will have an exciting opportunity to learn more about the fine art of filmmaking during workshops offered up by the Santa Clarita Valley Film Festival beginning on February 20.  Now in its third year, the SCV Film Festival is currently accepting students for its Film and Video After-School Workshops. Workshops are open to students from ages 11 to 14.  Classes will include an “Introduction to Live Action” and “Introduction to Animation.”

Class are limited to 10 students per course, to ensure that each participant receives personal attention through out the course of this unique hands-on experience of creating their own film.

“These workshops provide students with an opportunity to express themselves and to learn about virtually every aspect of the filmmaking process,” explains festival Executive Director Ramon Hamilton. “By creating a film, something that many of us consider impossible, students gain confidence and self-esteem as they achieve this impressive feat.”

At the end of each 10-week workshop series, the final project (a short film that the students themselves have written, shot, cast, acted in and edited) will be screened at a local venue.

In addition to the workshops, the SCV Film Festival’s monthly film screenings will begin again on February 11 at 7 p.m.
The Repertory East Playhouse in Newhall hosts the screenings, which will take place the second Sunday of each month.
“These monthly film screenings provide opportunities for local filmmakers to show their films, including ‘works in progress,’ and for local audiences to view independent films typically not shown in Santa Clarita, such as Factotum, an IFC film starring Matt Dillon that was shown as part of the series last year.” Hamilton explains.

Check the film festival’s website and sign-up for their email list in order to receive updates about the festival’s monthly events. If you are filmmaker that would like to show your work, simply email info@scvfilmfestval.com, or call 661-251-0274 to be added to the schedule.
Hamilton notes that on February 1, the SCV Film Festival will begin accepting submissions for its 2007 festival, which will be held the second weekend in November.  Submissions run through August 3rd, but the Early Bird process that opens February 1, offers the best rate for filmmakers eager to submit their work. Prizes from last year’s festival included Fuji 16mm film, Gorilla Software, Final Draft Software, LA 411, various gift certificates and a one-of-a-kind sculpted award. Hamilton encourages the community to get involved.
“The SCV Film Festival prides itself on bringing quality independent films and filmmaking experiences to the Santa Clarita Valley,”
