Erick Arreola from the Santa Clarita Community Center Boxing program is the new champ after winning the Golden Glove competition in the 130 pound weight division last month.
Arreola won two boxing matches before advancing to the finals and defeating his opponent in the third round, making him the 2007 Southern California Golden Glove champion.
Two of Arreolas’ peers, Johnathen Hays, and Mike Nolasco also competed in the week long amateur boxing event against other fighters from Southern California at the Lincoln Park Recreation Center. Nolasco was eliminated in the first stage of the competition and Hays won his first fight, but was defeated in the second phase.
