Summer is now in full swing, and for many it’s the beginning of the race to fitness for the second time this year.  As the commitment to New Year’s resolutions gently faded into the chaos of life, the beginning of summer was a wake-up call for those who established fitness goals in 2007.

For some, the good intentions of fitness club memberships and personal training programs have yielded moderate results – for others, no results at all.  The question for those seeking improved health, fitness and overall self-esteem becomes one of consistency and performance.  What hinders consistency and the discipline necessary to achieve such a worthwhile goal?  What performance expectations should be expected from a fitness facility or training program where hard-earned monies have been invested?

Consistency in regular exercise and healthy eating habits is quickly derailed when the stresses of life and demands of family responsibilities take precedence.  Soon, the fitness momentum wears off and the lure of downtime draws us into unhealthy complacency.  The monthly fees for the opportunity to go to the gym discreetly pass through the family budget as an accepted, though underutilized, investment.  As time constraints and other priorities silently steal slices of good health and longevity, where is your professional fitness support team?  Has gym management contacted you to see why you haven’t been in lately?  Has your personal trainer provided personal service – i.e., calling you to give you a bit of motivation and encouragement?  If not, you owe it to yourself to reconsider where you are investing your fitness dollars.

Choosing the right gym and/or personal training program is critical to ensuring that you reach your health and fitness goals.  Don’t settle for mass produced programs adept at attracting and signing clientele but lack effectiveness when it comes to ensuring that clients actually achieve their fitness objectives.  You are unique and you owe it to yourself to invest in a training program that uniquely fits you; one that will motivate, inspire and propel you to achieve your personal best.  When choosing your fitness partner(s), be sure to:

Evaluate the core values of the facility and its trainers.

Drop by during business hours and observe the clientele and the trainers.

Talk to clients and listen to their success stories.  Do they have them?

Don’t let good health and optimum fitness pass stealthily by.  Invest in yourself and select a program that will work for you.  Join a team of fitness professionals dedicated to achieving results in your overall health and fitness.  Develop relationships with them that encourage accountability when you need a little extra help getting motivated.  Dedicate yourself to consistency and discipline.

Success is achieved through commitment and teamwork with fitness professionals that share your vision – achieving the ultimate you.
