September marks a special month for Big John McCarthy’s Ultimate Training Academy, as the premier mixed martial arts academy of Valencia celebrates it’s two year anniversary.  In 2006, the legendary UFC referee and Santa Clarita resident Big John McCarthy had big dreams of owning his own mixed martial arts gym.  Dreams soon turned into reality as Big John found a spacious 16,000 square foot facility conveniently located on Rye Canyon Road between Avenues Scott and Stanford.
The doors of Big John McCarthy’s Ultimate Training Academy opened in early September 2006.  Housing memorabilia dating back to the first UFC, the gym offers the best mixed martial arts equipment accommodating all experience levels for those wishing to train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Submission Grappling, Kickboxing, Boxing, Judo, CrossFit and much more.

The academy features an impressive 24 foot by 24 foot boxing ring, a full heavy bag area, over 3,000 square feet of mat space, weight room, a line of cardio machines, men’s and women’s locker rooms and in the middle of the facility, a full-sized octagon.  Big John McCarthy’s Ultimate Training Academy offers a wide array of classes to accommodate the novice stepping into a gym for the first time to the elite athlete and professional fighter.  Kids five years old and up through adults – both men and women – can all find classes at BJMUTA.

Big John McCarthy’s Ultimate Training Academy has made its place in Santa Clarita history as one of California’s largest mixed martial arts facilities.  The academy has been featured in film and print including Human Weapon, Hazard Pay, Black Belt Magazine, Real Fighter Magazine.  This September 28 marks another date in Santa Clarita history when the academy holds it’s first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Grappling tournament!  The tournament is open to both kids and adults.
There will be categories for men, women and kids for BJJ (white through purple belts) and Submission Grappling (novice – advanced).  Spectators are invited to be a part of this historic event!
