WiSH Education Foundation Funds Science Equipment at Sequoia School
The WiSH Education Foundation is pleased to support Sequoia School’s science program by funding the purchase of needed microscopes.
“The Hart district and Sequoia staff are consistently striving toward increasing student engagement through enriching educational programs to prepare students for 21st Century demands,” said Brandi Davis, Principal. “As a result, Sequoia has incorporated cutting-edge curriculum from Project Lead the Way with the intentions of delivering curriculum in a functional and applicable way. Moreover, the generosity of the WiSH Education Foundation has enabled our program to add four oil immersion, digital compound LED microscopes with 10MP USB camera capabilities. With these state-of-the-art devices, our students will be exploring Gram staining, bacterial cell morphology, infectious disease classifications and nomenclature, human sickle cell traits/patterns, hair and fingerprint minutiae, and much more!”
The mission of Sequoia School is to provide a supportive and academically focused environment for students grades 7-12, through collaborative learning teams composed of highly qualified teachers, support staff and Educationally Related Intensive Counseling Services (ERICS). Sequoia’s program is uniquely designed to address the needs of students experiencing significant social-emotional/behavioral difficulties, which adversely impact their ability to make educational progress in a comprehensive campus setting.
“The caliber of instruction and student conceptualization have made impressive gains since the addition of recent tools/supplies to our Sequoia science program,” said Professor Mike Koegle, science instructor. “As the lab becomes more adequately equipped, student investment increases and, consequently, achievement and content understanding increase. This revelation is encouraging as our team seeks further fiscal assistance and grant opportunities to complete our tools/supplies list. This amazing donation made by the WiSH Education Foundation will not only benefit the Sequoia students currently enrolled in this Principles of Biomedical Science course but all of the students enrolled within the discipline of science.”
If you are a local business and interested in giving back to local education through Sequoia and other schools within the district, please contact Amy Daniels, Executive Director, at WiSH@hartdistrict.org.
