A Note From the Publishers – July 2016
As flags fly brightly in the summer sun and fireworks light up the evening sky, we are all reminded of this country’s beautiful history. In this issue, you will find everything you need for a patriotic Independence Day, as well as a memorable summer season. Flip through our pages to find information about local Fourth of July festivities, tips and summer deals from our wonderful advertisers. And we wish you a happy Fourth of July!
Just as July is a month to focus on our country’s history, we have chosen to focus on this community’s historical center during the month of July. On our cover, you will see the business owners and employees of Old Town Newhall, where much of Santa Clarita’s history is found, archived and memorialized. The businesses that line the streets today will one day be the history we leave to our children. We hope you join us in celebrating the Fourth of July by supporting this wonderful community, its businesses and its caring residents.
In addition to the holiday, two cultural festivals will kick off this month and continue into August, giving us something to look forward to all summer long! The Valencia Jazz & Blues Festival is sure to liven up your Friday nights with some of the best jazz music this valley has to offer. This will be the 17th year that the festival will feature regional, national and international entertainers in a family-friendly, quaint, street-party setting offering activities for adults and children. If you’re looking for a fun way to celebrate the summer with the whole family, head to the street outside Hyatt Regency Valencia, kick back and relax.
Also kicking off in July is LA SummerFest, presented by the Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival. This year’s summer series offers 18 events in five weeks – from music festivals, concerts and theatre performances to special events – including a tribute to jukebox musicals, an Americana music fest, a gospel night, a blues fest, Shakespearean plays and more! There’s truly something for everyone with this special program. With new changes to the venue, this season is sure to be more spectacular than ever.
Also coming up this summer is our 7th annual Dancing With Our Stars event. On Friday, August 26, we hope to see you at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center for one of the biggest fundraisers and hottest events of the year. Dancers have already begun learning their routines and hosting fundraisers for their respective non-profits. This year, we welcome 19 celebrity dancers to the stage, as well as new and returning professional dancers. We’re very excited to announce Santa Clarita Ballet as our opening act to this star-studded performance, and KTLA morning show host Chris Schauble will act as a celebrity judge for the evening. This is sure to be a fantastic night, and we hope to see you there!
Speaking of things to look forward to, the next élite Magazine is coming along beautifully. In the August/September issue, we will feature the second edition of our élite Bridal Magazine – the perfect guide to help you, your family or friends get started on a dream autumn wedding. We hope to bring you even more useful and interesting bridal stories with this issue, as well as all the local vendor information you’ll need to make planning a breeze. So be sure to check your mailbox at the end of the month! In the meantime, share your thoughts with us by voting for the 2016 élite Magazine Ultimate Home & Garden Winners at www.scvelitemagazine.com. Voting ends July 19.
Happy 4th of July,
Linda, Moe and Alexander Hafizi
