Special Diabetes Events Coming to Santa Clarita!
As part of National Diabetes Month, the American Diabetes Association is hosting two events in Santa Clarita to bring awareness of the more than 29 million Americans living with diabetes. Every day 3,835 Americans are diagnosed with diabetes – that’s one person every 23 seconds!
Kicking off the month on Saturday, November 5, the Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes will be held at Six Flags Magic Mountain. All walkers who donate or fundraise $100 to the American Diabetes Association will receive a free ticket to go into Magic Mountain after the walk and spend the day with family and friends. Ask 10 friends to donate $10, collect their donations and you will earn your free ticket. It’s that simple! You will also receive a free Step Out Walk t-shirt.
There is no registration fee to sign up, but donations and fundraising are encouraged. Parking at Six Flags is free when attending the walk. Every dollar raised plays an important role in supporting the American Diabetes Association’s mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
Walkers will have the opportunity to walk through the park prior to opening to the public, enjoy the Step Out Festival, entertainment, vendors and activities after the walk, and then have fun inside the park for the remainder of the day. Check-in and festival begins at 6:30 a.m., pre-walk warm-up begins on stage at 8 a.m. and the walk begins at 8:30 a.m. The Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes provides employees, friends and family an opportunity to come together for a fun healthy activity. Register today at diabetes.org/stepoutMagicMountain.
On Sunday, November 20, the public is invited to attend Feria De Salud. This event is an interactive health fair for the entire community and in particular for our Hispanic and Latino community. Feria De Salud is an indoor and outdoor community event intended to reach the community with the important message that they may be at risk for diabetes. Feria captures the festive elements of a street fair, but maintains the important aspects of choosing and managing a healthier lifestyle for the entire family. The atmosphere at Feria De Salud includes nutritional information, cooking demonstrations, bi-lingual speakers on health related topics, free health screenings, music, dancing and a variety of health related products and service booths. Feria De Salud will be held at the Newhall Community Center, located at 22421 Market Street in Newhall, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 20.
