Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Leona Cox State Preschool Program
On October 27, 2017, the Sulphur Springs Union School District at 8:30AM held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the Leona Cox State Preschool. The ceremony took place at 18643 Oakmoor Street, Canyon Country, CA. A special presentation by the preschoolers took place during the ceremony.
In addition to serving three and four year olds from low-income families who live within the Sulphur Springs Union School District boundaries, Leona Cox State Preschool will also provide the opportunity for Special Education preschoolers to participate in the state preschool program.
The Sulphur Springs Union School District utilizes the Creative Curriculum System for all preschool classes. Collaboration between teaching staff of all preschool programs takes place to ensure continuity of topics as the children move between classrooms.
The Sulphur Springs Union School District first offered a State Preschool program to its low-income families in 2002. The program began at Mint Canyon and Canyon Springs Community Schools. A second classroom was added at Canyon Springs in 2004. In the fall of 2017, State funded spaces were reallocated, one class remaining at Mint Canyon and establishing a new class at Leona Cox.
With the opening of the Leona Cox State Preschool, the Sulphur Springs Union School District is able to support families from a wider geographic segment of our district as well as support our Special Education preschool programs.
The Sulphur Springs Union School District is excited to continue its exemplary well-rounded preschool program for our youngest students.
Registration for the Sulphur Springs Union School District’s State Preschool Programs begins February 1, 2018.
