Tell Me Something Good – Feb 2018

by | Jan 23, 2018 | Community

The month of love… February is a month I hold very near and dear as my daughter was born on Valentine’s Day. This year we are celebrating her second birthday at home with our family and I could not be more grateful for that. The new year is officially over and we are in 2018 full swing! As I hunted for a bit of good news, I was happy to find it after one rough end to 2017 with the fires and this horrible sick season. And while my first bit of goodness wasn’t really in the form of news, you can’t beat a rainbow!
Kathy McAlpine shared a beautiful photo of a double rainbow followed by another share from Jacqueline Kizer. After what has been a rough winter for so many, it was a beautiful reminder that the new year can bring new beginnings.
This new beginning is especially dear to me as this woman lost almost everything she possessed in December in the Thomas Fire. Santa Clarita native and Ventura resident Julie Mino recently accepted the position of President & CEO of the Oxnard Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We are thrilled to have Julie lead our team in promoting Oxnard as a prime travel destination,” said Joe Cabral, board chair of the Oxnard CVB . “With her diverse background in tourism, special events and sales, we look forward to drawing on her expertise in continuing to build our presence in the marketplace.”
On Monday, January 8, Valencia High School received a lovely new addition to the campus. After planning and celebrating their 20th Reunion, the returning classes of 1997 & 1998 donated and dedicated the “Valencia High School, Home of the Vikings” signage to their Alma Mater. School administration, students and alumni were on hand during a rainy but eventful celebration for the high school. “It is a wonderful close to a once in a lifetime event for us as the first graduating classes. We spent almost two years planning the reunion and knew from day one that we wanted to give back. We look forward to much more collaboration with VHS in the future through our new Alumni Association.” – The Valencia High School Alumni Association committee.
