Newhall Family Theatre to Feature First Theatrical Production Since Renovation
Major Impact Theater is proud to announce its latest production, Harry and the Magic Rock, has been selected as the inaugural theatrical performance at the newly renovated Newhall Family Theatre for the Performing Arts on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Grammy-nominated composer and keyboardist, Wally Minko and his quartet will perform live music pre-show and during intermission.
Opened in 1941, adjacent to Newhall Elementary School, the Newhall Family Theatre fell victim to state space usage mandates and was used as a warehouse from the mid-1970’s, until the aftermath of the 1994 Northridge Earthquake spurred interest in restoring the facility to its former use. Measure E funding, approved in 2011, paved the way for a full renovation.
The architectural integrity and original Art Deco style of this iconic Santa Clarita historical landmark remain, while the interior has been transformed. Technological enhancements include improved acoustic and audio-visual capabilities, and the 529 seat theater boasts an expanded stage, renovated lobby, and a new outdoor patio area.
Major Impact Theater (MIT), a non-profit theater group that specially adapts plays for performance by adults with disabilities, was chosen as the first community group to stage a theatrical production in the newly renovated venue. As a collaboration between the Newhall School District and the City of Santa Clarita, the Newhall Family Theater for the Performing Arts will be available to both the Newhall School District and the community at large.
“This is the largest venue MIT has booked and we are extremely excited at this opportunity to bring our show to a larger audience and for our community to come out to support our actors, listen to great live music by Wally Minko, and enjoying a great the show in the newly renovated theater”, said MIT Co-founder, Shawnda Davis.
Tickets to Harry and the Magic Rock will be available starting April 1, at www.majorimpacttheater.org. For more information, email majorimpacttheater.org@gmail.com.
