Monthly Message from Mayor Marsha McLean
We are a month into 2019 and your City is already hard at work taking plans and projects and turning them into reality.
We are about to cut the ribbon on the much-anticipated Newhall Ranch Road Bridge Widening Project. Our residents are already enjoying the expanded bridge, which provides an additional traffic lane in each direction, increasing the number of lanes in each direction to four. In addition to improving trail connections with a new undercrossing trail in the west bank, the project also added a raised median and a new protected sidewalk and bike path on the south side of the bridge.
Last month we hosted the ribbon cutting for our new EV charging station at the Santa Clarita Station on Soledad and the official launch celebration for our new bike share program! This month we will also cut the ribbon for the new pedestrian bridge on Sierra Highway and open a new archery range in the Haskell Canyon Open Space to the public.
While our community is enjoying all these new services and amenities, we are making major strides in our other much-anticipated projects. The site of the new Canyon Country Community Center has been cleared and prepped and it is almost time to officially break ground! We are looking forward to digging the golden shovels into the dirt and starting construction sometime in March.
I am pleased to see the progress in updating Santa Clarita’s Transportation Development Plan. Based on public feedback, the plan will take a fresh look at our public transportation system to make sure the City is providing the transportation opportunities our residents need. We will consider improvements such as routes to new areas within the City, new services and much more.
I am proud to serve as Mayor once again for our amazing City that is busily moving forward with projects, amenities and programs to better serve our residents! Here’s to an amazing 2019!
