Multi Car Accidents In California: Who is at Fault?
There are different types of car accidents. There is the rear end, side swipe, and the head on collision, just to name a few. With these types of accidents, it is usually clear who is to blame. In Encino, California, “Four people injured in a multi car accident,” “Four car pileup on Van Nuys Boulevard,” these are headlines right out of the local media. It leaves a person to wonder, when there is more than one car involved in an accident, who is to blame?
How does a multi car auto accident occur?
There are different ways that a multi car collision can occur. One way this can happen is if one of the motorists has a medical condition such as a seizure while driving. Another way this can happen is if someone was texting and driving. Speeding, driving under the influence, tailgating, malfunctioning brakes, and falling asleep behind the wheel can also cause multi car accidents.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 40 percent of all traffic-related injuries and fatalities occur as a result of collisions involving more than two motor vehicles. In these moments there can arise some legal and liability issues. Everybody involved will most likely point to one of the other parties as the cause of the accident. That’s why it’s important to have a lawyer to shift through everything that happened and protect your rights.
What can a lawyer do for you?
If the accident only involved two vehicles, it can be said that only one person is at fault. However, if there are more than two vehicles involved in an auto accident it can be the fault of more than one person. For example if one car rear ends the first car, and the person in the third car was texting while driving, and did not see the accident ahead, it can be said that both the second car and the third car’s drivers were at fault. Any great auto accident attorney can figure out exactly who is liable and protect all of your interests in your cases.
