Sierra Pelona Valley Festival 2019 Benefits Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley
Mark your calendars for April 6, 2019 and attend the 7th Sierra Pelona Valley Wine Festival 2019 located at the Reyes Winery in Agua Dulce – a 21 and over event! Proceeds will benefit the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley. These proceeds help fund the Club’s programs, projects, scholarships and grants designed to empower women and girls.
Zonta offers Free LifeForward Workshops designed to empower women and promote self-sufficiency. Nine workshops offering topics for self-growth and awareness are available for the community to attend. Topics are selected from surveys of what the audience feel they need – Communication and Relationships; Cyberbullying and Cyber-Trafficking; Increase Self-Worth; Anger Management; Tax Season Workshop; Managing Money and other relevant topics are offered throughout the year. Comments from attendees show that the workshops have helped women and men with personal growth.
LifeForward workshop series are being designed for at-risk youth to empower them as they prepare for adulthood.
Zonta sponsors a robotic program for girls ages none to 14 years old at the Boys and Girls Club. This program is designed to foster interest and skills in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields. The girls design and build fully-functional Lego Mindstorm Robots; use software to test and modify program sequences of instructions for a variety of life-like robotic behaviors. They learn to collect and analyze data from sensors, using data logging functionalities embedded in the software. Individual lesson plans are designed so that girls can join the program during the school year and advance at their own pace.
