Do you like Comedies and Musicals? Canyon Theatre Guild has a fun-filled Spring and Summer planned
What about a heartfelt comedy musical that’ll make you want to dance in the aisles? This spring, such a show will be coming to the Canyon Theatre Guild! The Broadway, five-time Tony nominated musical comedy Sister Act made its CTG debut on March 23 and will run through April 27. Based on the 1992 movie of the same title, Sister Act follows disco diva Deloris Van Cartier, who’s a recent witness to a gang related murder. She’s thrown into a witness protection program which sends her to hideaway in the best possible place: a convent! Disguised as a nun, she’s met by the strict, uptight Mother Superior who runs her convent as mechanical and militant as a drill sergeant! Deloris is able to bedazzle her fellow nuns with her disco influence and spirit, breathing new life into those around her and helping the convent rediscover their true sisterhood. With a musical score by legend Alan Menken (Newsies, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Disney’s Little Mermaid, Little Shop of Horrors), energetically splendid dances and a hilarious book, this show will be having you rolling in the aisles, if not shouting “Hallelujah!”
Don’t just witness the magic, become the magic! Do you have a child who’s interested in performing? From first timers to seasoned actors, the Canyon Theatre Guild’s youth workshops offer a wide range of opportunities for all ages! CTG Stars (Ages 13 to 18) will be performing Disney’s Frozen Jr. – That’s right! We’re taking a trip to Arendelle to visit Elsa and her sister Anna. Based off of Disney’s hit film, Frozen Jr. is a cleverly condensed musical adventure filled with hit songs such as Let it Go and For the First Time in Forever. This four-week intensive workshop will have your teen learning theatre technique from experienced instructors while living in the magic that is Disney!
While the teens adventure to Arendelle, the CTG Juniors (Ages 10 to 13) will be traveling back in time to the 1960’s with Pom Pom Zombies when things were a little simpler. Simple as going to the drive-in to see a double feature, or hanging out on the beach, or saving the world from radioactive cheerleader zombies. This three-week workshop will have your child dancing and laughing while learning about theatrical basics.
While the CTG Juniors are going back to the past, the CTG Kids (Reading age to 10 years): will be taking a trip up North with T-was the Week Before Christmas as they visit Santa’s workshop during a time when it is not Christmas. In this heartwarming and fun tale, the elves and the reindeer must remind themselves that the true spirit of Christmas lives in all of us all year long! This two-week workshop, headed by a very experienced youth instructor, teaches theatrical basics while providing a fun and safe environment for the summer!
For our youngest theatre actors, we have an exciting new addition to our youth workshops! First Act (Pre-K to age six) will be presenting Baby Beluga. This twenty-minute show will be prepared in a two-week session as they go on this musical sea adventure with music by Raffi!
