Five Savvy Moving Tips for National Moving Month
1. Consult before you list!
Even before you put your home on the market, consult with a contractor as well as a realtor to get the most bang for your buck. What repairs and upgrades will get you the best offers? Consult with the professionals to find out.
2. Bundle and save!
After doing thorough research and getting estimates from a few reputable, trustworthy, professional moving companies, ask about a discount for bundling services. From storage to packing and unpacking, your moving company no doubt offers many services. Find out what you can save by combining any or all these services.
3. Downsize quickly with one Bulky Item Pick-Up!
Downsizing the volume of items you are moving will drastically help decrease your moving bill. You can downsize quickly by starting the elimination process with the larger items first. Get rid of these items in one Bulky Item Pick-Up scheduled through your waste-management company.
4. Be tech savvy!
There are endless apps to help you with the moving process. Evernote can keep your notes and important paperwork organized. LetGo, Yardsale, and ThredUp can help you declutter. Taskrabbit can get you an extra hand. Use Sortly or Nest Egg for inventory. Use My Move to stay on top of all your moving checklists. Magic Plan can help you plan your new space. And don’t forget the simple technology. Use your smartphone to take pictures: for inventory and insurance as well as to remind you what wires go where in the back of your computer and/or entertainment system!
5. Make time to clean.
If feasible, schedule a cleaning crew for the new place before you move in and one for the old place after you leave. If that is not feasible, try to get to your new place before moving day. Focus on cleaning the kitchen and bathroom.
