Sharing Wisdom A Spotlight on local mom, Rachelle Rosale

My name is Rachelle and I am a mother of six; five teenagers and one adult; what I can tell you is that through everything they are my reasons, my heart and my inspiration.
I had my oldest daughter, Ceidre at the tender age of 16, I cherish the fact that we grew together through many stages of life. She is my dearest friend and my biggest inspiration and is now age 27. Realizing early on the challenges I would face as a teen mom I knew I could not let fear get in the way. I worked two times as hard to finish school and graduate with my class and my two-month-old infant.
My next four children blessed my life pretty much back-to-back; Treslei, Anthony, Johnny and Genevieve who are four years apart: ages 19, 17, 15 and 13. They are my greatest teachers and purest joy. Eight years ago, I found myself alone and facing the challenge of being a single parent. I remember being terrified as I had spent the last 18 years of my life as a stay at home mom and had no job experience. I was unsure of how I was going to make it and only knew that these beautiful faces were counting on me to do just that. I just wanted to raise happy, healthy and productive members of the community. I reached out to my church and to local organizations for help and ways to keep my kids involved when I was at work. What I found is that with Faith and a strong community you can do the impossible. Communication is a key element in parenting. Being able to effectively communicate and actively listen guides, strikes out fear, comforts and connects you as a unit. Desire and dedication reveal pathways to dreams and the journey to success. Open communication with my children takes work, we need to always listen with an open heart and mind. Never say mean things and always mean what you say. I had to realize that my children want to be heard as much as anyone else and sometimes the way that they listen is through actions. I feel that it is important to be honorable as we teach our children to honor us as parents. Sometimes it is easy to forget that we often teach by example.
Last year we were blessed with the opportunity to make a difference in a beautiful young spirit’s life who through many tumultuous years in the system was scared and alone. We understood that fear and embraced my niece by becoming her foster mom. She is so much more than that though; she is our bright light, the sparkle that changed our family for the better and made us whole. In less than a year, her life has changed, and it is because of her desire to do so with the ability to feel safe and secure and to know that she belongs. She has blossomed in so many ways and we could not imagine life without her. We are better together.
My best advice to families of all dynamics is to look at what fits and be comfortable with what doesn’t. See obstacles as opportunities to grow together. Stand in knowing we are better together. Remember to love with all your heart, laugh till it hurts (It really is the best medicine), find what matters and embrace it… Face what lingers and release it. Tomorrow is always a new day to shine so let it shine.
