Don’t Trash Your Community Campaign Campaign Aims to Reduce Illegal Dumping in Valley

by | May 28, 2019 | Community

Do you ever find yourself stuck with a bulky item like a couch or mattress and struggle with how to dispose of it properly? Thanks to an agreement the City of Santa Clarita has with our franchised waste hauler, your bulky items can be picked up for FREE. Each residence that has active trash and recycling service with Waste Management, can dispose of large items for FREE by scheduling a bulky item pick-up or by dropping the item off at their local facility during business hours. To promote this service, the City’s Environmental Services Division is pushing out the “Don’t Trash Your Community” campaign: an effort designed to educate residents about the negative impacts of illegal dumping and about the free disposal options available.
The Don’t Trash Your Community campaign features fun videos with talking mattresses and recliners educating viewers on the step-by-step process of scheduling pick-ups. The campaign has been featured locally on flyers, in the City’s SEASONS magazine and other local publications, gas station pumps, radio ads and even in local movie theatres.
If you would like to schedule a pick-up, please contact Waste Management at 661-259-2398 or at KeepingSCVClean.com at least two days prior to your regular trash day. Place your items at the curb, but not until the scheduled pick-up day or the evening before. Residents can also visit the local Waste Management Facility at 25772 Springbrook Avenue to drop-off items. Proof of identification and a valid, active trash account are required. Residents living in multi-family properties should contact their Property Manager to make arrangements.
Residents can also take part in the fight against illegal dumping by reporting abandoned items through the City’s Resident Service Center (RSC), by visiting santa-clarita.com/RSC or downloading the mobile app. If you witness illegal dumping, please do not approach the person, take note of any details and contact the Sheriff’s Department immediately at 661-255-1121.
