A One-of-a-Kind Teacher Teacher Spotlight: Jennifer Magon
Everyone can typically say that they have a teacher who has touched their life. Myself, and many others of my graduating class in 2014 and on can say that Mrs. Magon was theirs at Canyon High School. To Magon, being a teacher was so much more. She was an educator, mentor, therapist, open-ear, friend… everything you can imagine. Every single brunch break, lunch, or transitional class period, there would be someone in her room talking. She was who you went to when you were worried you couldn’t make it through the day, when you lost a loved one, or in my case – before coming out. She was a good soul who kept extra food in the classroom in case her students were hungry, and other products in case her students needed them. Of course, she was also one of the best teachers I had ever had as well. No matter what, she never gave up on us. She didn’t encourage us on just grades, but in our efforts to succeed in life, which gave us more hope. She helped us apply to colleges, understand scholarships, and the weird transition that we just weren’t ready for…being an adult. Jennifer Magon was more than what is listed, because it is hard to put into words what a human being who touches lives really is, but in the words of Rita Pierson, “Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them.” Jennifer Magon was that champion.
