Monthly Message from the Mayor Marsha McLean
Patriotism and love for our country run deep in our City. These sentiments are proudly displayed in the many Fourth of July celebrations that take place throughout the day.
The Fourth of July kicks off with the Independence Day Classic Run, starting in Newhall and winding its way through town. This run takes the same route as the parade that takes place later that morning, so it is a once-a-year opportunity to race through some of our main city streets.
The Santa Clarita Fourth of July Parade is one of the longest running events in our community, and it truly is a community celebration! The parade kicks off at 9 a.m., at William S. Hart Park, making its way down Main Street before turning west on Lyons Avenue. You will see local non-profit groups, scouts, marching bands, classic cars, public safety officials, sports teams, elected officials and more. I look forward to this event every year and enjoy getting to see so many of your smiling faces along the parade route.
Once the sun sets on another great holiday, get ready for the fireworks to light up the night! The City’s Fireworks show kicks off at 9:15 p.m. at Westfield Valencia Town Center. It is an incredible show put on by experts. I encourage all of you to leave the fireworks to these experts. Not only are fireworks dangerous, but they are also illegal in Santa Clarita. With all the rain we had this winter and spring, our hillsides are now covered with drying vegetation that could easily spark into a dangerous wildfire. Additionally, fireworks set off in our neighborhoods can be extremely traumatizing for Veterans and our pets.
I want to wish all of you a happy and safe Fourth of July!
