A Note From the Publishers – August 2019

by | Jul 24, 2019 | A Note From the Publisher

Well, Alex and I made it on the cover this month!
It was a hot, blustery day, but I was so happy to join Amy Daniels of the Wish Education Foundation, Corrine Barchanowicz, Senior General Manager and Audra Cheney, Marketing Manager of Westfield Valencia Town Center on our cover this month. Plans are underway for the Wish Foundation’s very popular event, Cocktails on the Roof, slated for September 6th and located on the roof of Macy’s at Westfield. I am told that more restaurants have been added this year so expect tickets to sell out fast. It’s a fun evening of great food, cocktails and dancing. See the story on page 20.
We are very proud of our son, Alex. In July, he became President of the Circle of Hope Foundation. With this change of leadership, the organization has announced a new event that will help raise funds to support their mission. Hoedown for Hope – A BBQ Competition, will take place on September 14th at the Back Porch Music venue. Expect great BBQ and incredible entertainment with Alesia XO, Orchard Bluegrass Band, Haywire Country Band and The Grizwalds. There’s still time to enter to win the grand prize of $1,000 for the best BBQ in town. There will even be a pie competition at this family friendly event, more information is on page 22.
Do you know someone who you would like to nominate for 40 Under Forty? JCI Santa Clarita and Santa Clarita Magazine are pleased to announce the 10th Annual 40 Under Forty event which will be held in November this year. This is a closed nomination and all nominees will be invited to a mixer on August 28th at Brewery Draconum. Deadline for nominations is August 1 so visit www.scv40underforty.com to nominate a person who deserves the recognition.
Don’t miss dancing in the street on Town Center Drive at the finalé of the season of the Valencia Jazz & Blues Concert Series, August 2 with Teresa James and The Rhythm Tramps. This year’s new location was a hit, with hundreds of people enjoying great music, kudos to Barbara Myler, owner and producer of the concert series and congratulations on 20 years of success.
Comics for a Cause is back on August 22 at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons. This is a fundraiser for the Youth Project and once again Curt Kravitz of Bay Equity Home Loans and Anita and Jim Lombardi with Federal Escrow have stepped up as presenters of this 8th Annual event. Turn to page 30 for the lineup of comedians performing and if you enjoy a good laugh tickets can be purchased online.
There are so many great community events happening in the Santa Clarita Valley during August and September, too many to mention in my notes so please flip the pages and find something that you would like to get involved with in 2019.
While the hot weather doesn’t seem as if it is going to leave any time soon, the summer season will soon be coming to an end. Teachers are getting their classrooms ready and before you know it, the kids will be back in school. Consult our Back to School Guide on page 92 to make informed choices when selecting education related professionals and businesses.
Lastly, don’t forget to pick up the August/September issue of élite Magazine, where we have featured some remarkable people who live in the Santa Clarita Valley. Take time to vote for your favorite leading ladies in élite Magazine’s 5th Annual Ultimate Ladies in Business Awards. We’re very excited to honor Santa Clarita’s powerhouse businesswomen.
Until next time
