Monthly message from Mayor Marsha McLean Try a Summer Transit Adventure
Summertime in Southern California means high temps, high gas prices and an increase in travelers heading off for vacation. What if I told you there was an easy way to beat the heat… at a fraction of the cost… without the stress and hassle of dealing with traffic? There is – and it is called public transit.
We are fortunate to live in a City where there are easy, efficient and cost-saving ways to get wherever we need to go. This summer, take the family on an adventure. The three Metrolink stations in Santa Clarita can connect you to Downtown Los Angeles and beyond. Our very own Santa Clarita Transit service offers air-conditioned comfort for riders whether you just need to get around town or use the service for regular commuter trips to North Hollywood, Downtown Los Angeles, the Westside or the Valley.
During the summer our buses also make very special trips down the 405 to Santa Monica beach where residents can cool off in the ocean, play at the world-famous pier or shop along the promenade. For just $3 each way you can make the trip without even thinking about traffic or parking. There is room to bring coolers, boogie boards and beach chairs. This service will run through September 1 and picks up at several locations throughout the City.
Summertime also means the return of our popular Summer Trolley, which takes guests to and from Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor each day for free, and is now offering evening service from local hotels to Town Center Drive! Thanks to the City’s partnership with participating hotels and tourist destinations, the Summer Trolley gives tourists a great way to explore Santa Clarita and gives residents the opportunity to get around town without having to worry about driving or parking.
I encourage all of you to explore alternate modes of transportation to get around town or around the region. By bus, train, bike, trolley or ridesharing – there are many options to get where you are going in an efficient, environmentally friendly manner.
