Read to Succeed This School Year
Did you know that children who read for enjoyment perform better in school, develop a broader vocabulary, have a larger base of general knowledge and a better understanding of other cultures? Researchers from Pearson have found that reading for pleasure is more likely to determine a child’s success in school than any other factor.
There is no better place to foster a love for reading than at our Santa Clarita Public Library! At our three branches, you can explore stacks of books on almost any topic, for every reading level. The resources don’t stop with just the physical materials – visit SantaClaritaLibrary.com to explore a comprehensive selection of online resources to help your children be successful this school year.
Students can research and discover important information on a variety of web platforms, including “brainfuse.” This site supports many learning needs and styles – provides worksheets, tutoring and more!
Middle schoolers can learn about historical figures on the “Biography Reference Center,” site which offers a comprehensive collection of full-text and narrative biographies. High schoolers can explore life across history and cultures with “Daily Life Through History.” This site lets students find out about past civilizations through social customs, traditions, food, celebrations and even occupations.
Students aren’t the only ones who will benefit from library resources – the Santa Clarita Public Library website also has guides for parents. One of the most valuable links helps parents navigate the Common Core State Standards. This new way of learning can be challenging for parents who learned the basics in a very different way than is currently being taught.
The Santa Clarita Public Library has what you need for your next adventure – whether it is taking on the new school year or looking for the next great read to inspire your imagination. I urge you to take the time this month to visit our libraries in person – and online at SantaClaritaLibrary.com.
