Valencia High School Choir goes to Europe
Did you know that Valencia High School Choir has just returned from Greece and Italy, where they were honored to sing mass in Vatican City at St. Peter’s Basilica? Twenty-two students traveled to perform and create music together while learning much about world history and culture. It was a life changing experience that these students will never forget. They were proud to represent Valencia H.S. and The Santa Clarita community in their performances. This year, Valencia H.S. students will also be featured performers at The Monterey Jazz Festival on September 29, 2019.
They were selected as the top vocal jazz choir in the nation through the Next Generation Monterey Jazz Festival Showcase Competition. In March 2020, Valencia Choir will perform at the upcoming American Choral Director’s Association Western Division Conference to showcase these students and will be honored again to represent our Santa Clarita City and the state of California! It is no secret that providing opportunities and resources to study music in the public school system is a consistent challenge, but every student deserves the chance to learn and develop their musical talents and abilities. Our goal at Valencia H.S. Choir is that no student is turned away based on financial need. Presently, we are fundraising for uniforms and theory books. If you’d like to sponsor one of our students, please email cmocha@hartdistrict.org. We also will be putting on the 16th Annual Valencia H.S. Holiday Boutique on Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 14 supporting the music program with over 30 vendors. Valencia Choir’s focus is to Inspire, Uplift, and Cultivate Community. They look forward to performing throughout Santa Clarita and serving our city through song. As the holidays approach, if you would like music for your upcoming events and would like the Valencia Choir or Valencia Carolers to come sing, please contact the director, Christine Tavares-Mocha or come to one of our upcoming events at Valencia H.S. and throughout the community.
