SNAP Sports Shattering the Notion of Limitations Since 2012

by | Oct 29, 2019 | Community

Santa Clarita-based SNAP Sports has been providing individuals with disabilities the opportunity to engage in a variety of sports-based activities since 2012. What began as an ice hockey program has expanded over the past seven years to include; flag football, cheerleading, distance running and figure and recreational ice skating. We currently serve over 100 athletes from Santa Clarita and the surrounding areas.
Athletes often shatter the notion of commonly held limitations, by accepting the challenge of these more complex competitive sports. Players gain confidence and poise while becoming better equipped to manage their individual disabilities. We achieve these goals through individual coaching, use of adaptive equipment and relentless positivity.
Athletes who participate regularly, routinely develop the essential physical and social skills needed to improve their everyday lives. Increasing their social circles by making new friends, has had a significant positive impact on our athletes, and their families.
Naturally, an increase in the physical fitness of our athletes is a natural by-product of their training. Some families have reported weight management improvement, as well as a general improvement in mood and energy. We attribute that not only to the regular exercise we provide, but more in the confidence inspired by team play, and personal athletic achievement.
Here’s a brief list of SNAP Sports activities from the past year:
• Hockey program traveled to Toronto, Canada compete in the SHI Tournament
• Purchased various adaptive mobility devices for skater development
