10th Annual Mardi Gras Madness 5K/10K Slated to Benefit SOAR
Officials released that the 10th Annual Mardi Gras Madness 5K/10K will again take place at Valencia Town Center February 23, 2020. The announcement comes in the wake of news that the event’s primary beneficiary, Students Off And Running (SOAR) of Santa Clarita, would continue participation as a Featured Charity for the 35th running of the Los Angeles Marathon. “Our ongoing partnership with the LA Marathon offers tremendous opportunity to further our mission while maintaining the visibility needed to raise funds to support our kids in training,” SOAR Director Kevin Sarkissian commented.
Now in its 13th year of operation, the Santa Clarita Track Club’s SOAR program offers a six-month 380-mile, marathon training experience to high school youth living in the Santa Clarita Valley at no cost to participants or their families. Students committing to the 24-week training season are covered for all event registration fees, equipment, transportation, and training supplies at a cost of approximately $1,000 per student participant. SOAR has helped hundreds of kid’s train for, and complete the LA Marathon, reporting an astounding 100% completion rate since establishing roots in 2007.
“Offering a no cost program of this caliber presents significant financial challenge, and we rely almost entirely on fundraising to pay the bills. SOAR’s Mardi Gras Madness 5K/10K, hosted by Valencia Town Center in February of each year, represents a significant portion of our annual fundraising strategy, and I’m truly grateful for the tremendous community support that has helped to sell out the event for the past 7 years, said Sarkissian.
