Celebrating 5 Years of Supporting Kids

by | Nov 26, 2019 | Community

What started as a business project for an 8th grader in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy has blossomed into a nationwide organization known as S.T.R.E.A.M. Over the past 5 years, since its inception, founder Niamani Knight and S.T.R.E.A.M. has exposed over 20,000 kids to Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Manufacturing (S.T.R.E.A.M.) winning several awards and accolades for their efforts. Since then, they have held true to their mission of challenging kids today to own the possibilities  tomorrow through interactive exhibits and industry-led talks for parents and students. “I never imagined that S.T.R.E.A.M. would turn into what it is today. I am so thankful for every company and individual that has served and continues to serve through time, talent, and treasure. With their help, we have been able to do direct services with over 20,000 of my peers, the next generation of innovators, leaders, and entrepreneurs, “commented Niamani.
S.T.R.E.A.M. continues to grow, creating new programs for students to get more involved. Programs that provide training like the new Ambassador Program where students get the opportunity to learn professional development skills and become inspired by conversations with industry leaders; or instructive, themed events like the interactive Expos where kids receive vital tools to connect the dots between education and career. S.T.R.E.A.M. even includes parents in some of their events. Taking inspiration from her challenges as a mother trying to prepare her children for the future, Nikia Richards, S.T.R.E.A.M.’s President, created S.T.R.E.A.M. Parent Café™, which connects parents with industry. “By empowering parents, you strengthen and motivate the family to not just exist in a community but take part in the success of their community,” says Nikia.
Now 18 years-old, Niamani is a woman on the rise and continues to expand her vision, taking S.T.R.E.A.M. national, going to places like Seattle and Atlanta to partner with tech and aerospace giants such as Amazon and PPG to bridge the gap with students and industry today. Looking forward, S.T.R.E.A.M. will continue their mission and want to thank the Santa Clarita Valley for making the past five years such a fantastic adventure.
To celebrate this occasion, S.T.R.E.A.M. and title Sponsor Lockheed Martin invite the community at large to join them on December 3, 2019, from 10am-12:30pm to show appreciation and give out awards to the many volunteers, businesses, and community leaders that have helped S.T.R.E.A.M. along the way. Niamani ended with, “We will also be facilitating a conversation about how our community can continue to support our students in the years to come. I look forward to seeing you all there!”
