Empowering HeArts 2020
A couple of months ago Single Mothers Outreach (SMO) began preparations for our tenth annual Empowering HeArts fundraising gala set to take place on February 8th, 2020 at The Canyon Santa Clarita.
Empowering HeArts is our signature fundraising event. All proceeds from sponsorships, tickets sales and product sales support programs that empower single parents to effectively care for their families.
Empowering HeArts is an annual celebration of women who have changed lives and shaped their communities. It bridges the worlds of social action and artistic expression in an annual arts competition. Honorees are nominated by the community and selected by the Single Mothers Outreach (SMO) Event Planning Committee. Community artists participate by submitting an application and being selected by the committee as well.
The Empowering Hearts Gala presents the creative works of Santa Clarita Valley artists who create unique and inspiring art forms inspired by these real-life stories. It is SMOs hope that through sharing these powerful stories in word and art, these extraordinary women will impact and inspire others to rise above their own circumstances.
The awards during the event include the “Dottie Award,” which is awarded to the artist who depicts the most compelling visual story and the “People’s Choice,” awarded by gala attendees who vote at the event.
This year’s honorees include Nola Aronson, Luz Garcia, Tabitha Jennings, Cassandra Rivera, Sandra Mariscal and Morgan Smith. The wonderful artists that will be creating for them are Kirby Lanier, Aazam Irilian, James Loken, AmyKate Gowland, Tannaz Santos and Ashley Funicello.
