Ride for a Cure Breaks Records Again with 2019 Donation for Breast Cancer Awareness
The Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Foundation announced that for the fifth consecutive year, a record-breaking donation was received by the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center, a service of Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, from “Ride for a Cure.” This very special event held at the Santa Clarita Athletic Club on October 18, 2019 raised an unprecedented $14,920 for the Breast Center.
Ride for a Cure is the brainchild of local spin instructor Janet Cheveres, who created the event to raise funds—and awareness– during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Janet believes that the role of the Breast Center in early detection and thus early, successful treatment is critical to survival. With that in mind and a little effort, Ride for a Cure was born and has been a highly successful event for the past five years.
“According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every two minutes,” said Janet Cheveres, the event organizer. “The numbers are scary and staggering. Taking action is more important to me than simply wearing pink in October. This is why I support The Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center.”
“The support our Breast Center receives from our community is fantastic,” said Mara Shay, RN, Manager of the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center. “We are so grateful for the dedication and generosity of Janet Cheveres and everyone who takes part every year in “Ride for a Cure.”
All proceeds from Ride for a Cure will be donated to the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center to help provide early detection, treatment and support for patients.
