More Seats, Free Senior Gourmet Thanksgiving
A Thanksgiving Day miracle, shown in the photos on this page, has entered a wonderful new phase of a 45-year saga.
For over 35 years, SCV Chapter members of Lions Clubs international worked all Wednesday night before Thanksgiving to prepare dinner at the SCV Senior Center, for Senior Citizens. The Senior Center is closed Thanksgiving Day, and the day after.
By 2010, SCV Lions were reduced to three members. No Thanksgiving could occur.
“2019 marked the 10th year of a ‘Miracle Event’, invented by human dynamo Flo Lawrence, who saved Thanksgiving. Flo brought in the Castaic Chapter of Lions International to advance plan the event.
Flo came up with a magic four-part formula. One, the event would continue on Thanksgiving Day. Two, it would remain 100 percent free to Seniors. Three, different menu items would be sought from SCV’s best restaurants. Four, hundreds of SCV Hart District students would be staff. and hosts,” explained event Co-Manager Allan Cameron.
Flo Lawrence added, “We have a new fifth part of our formula. That is the larger Senior Center. More Seniors can come. In 2019, over 1,000 gourmet meals were served. We will start taking reservations for Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 26, 2020) on Monday, October 5.”
