The 3rd Annual Castaic Lake Dragon Boat Festival

by | Mar 25, 2020 | Community

Come watch our exciting Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday, June 13 where teams from all over Southern California and Nevada come together and compete on 10-man boats for the fastest times. During our Celebration of Culture’s, you’ll be able to enjoy live stage performers, music, food trucks and a special tribute to breast cancer survivors who participate heavily in the sport. Don’t forget to bring your chair to enjoy the races, the wonderful views and a great time barbecuing with family and friends!
If you have never seen a dragon boat race, the event involves a drummer seated above the team on each boat. The drummer leads them into their strokes with fervor and passion. The boats have colorful checkered patterns on them and are used this way for practice but during the races, the teams attach colorful dragon heads and tails to create a different look in which each boat takes on the appearance of a dragon. It’s really fun to see!
Dragon Boating is a great and fun way to create team bonding. That’s why many public services also form teams. During Dragon Boat competitions you can see Police, Fire Department and public services competing for a gold medal. We are also encouraging workplaces to put together teams and compete. Boston Scientific has been part of our Dragon Boat club for almost 4 years. Their corporate division won multiple races in Los Angeles and Long Beach annually. If you are interested in obtaining more information, please contact us. We help you put together a team, supply coaches, steerers, paddles and vests practically free. There’s no limit of age or physical fitness required …anyone can paddle!
The Dragon Boat Festival is held at the Lower Lagoon, at Castaic Lake, 32132 Castaic Lake Drive. First 200 cars will be free, after that there’s a $11 parking fee.
