Should I Repaint, Reface, Or Replace My Cabinets?
One question we get asked often from homeowners is if they should repaint their kitchen cabinets, replace them altogether, or reface.
It is always less expensive to apply paint than replace, so let us look at some of the reasons why you might consider repainting your cabinets, and you decide what’s best for you.
The cost to paint a kitchen is typically 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of replacing. The paints applied to cabinets are also very durable and will last just as long as new cabinets in most cases.
If an experienced paint company is handling your cabinet project, you’ll be surprised at how good the finished product will look.
The only time you really do not want to paint or re-stain your cabinets is when you are tired of the style or design of the doors and drawers. This is where you can do a combination of replacement and repaint or refinishing.
If you want new doors and drawers, you can typically hire a professional cabinet maker to install unfinished doors and drawers with new hinges and drawer guides. Then, have a painting company do the painting or staining work.
Check out how we at ALLBRiGHT took these typical SCV kitchen cabinets that were initially stained in a “golden oak” color and transformed them into a much more up-to-date look. It adds a lot of light and open feel to the space, don’t you think. The added brushed nickel handles also make a bold statement and protect the new cabinet paint from being nicked when open and closing. All around, we think it’s an ALLBRiGHT look for sure.
