Child & Family Center To Host Virtual 5K Purple Walk/Run for Domestic Violence Awareness

by | Aug 27, 2020 | Community

Child & Family Center presents the Virtual 5k Purple Walk/Run October 17, in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. All proceeds raised from the event will support the Center’s Domestic Violence program, which provides life-saving services to those experiencing intimate partner violence. Your decision to walk with us in October helps show survivors they are not alone!
Child & Family Center staff and volunteers have created the virtual event to support these critical community resources, as the need is greater now than ever. In fact, recent reports show that in the Santa Clarita Valley, there has been a 59% increase in domestic violence calls — one of the few areas where crimes appear to be trending upward while L.A. County remains in quarantine.
“This year, more than ever before, these funds are critical to helping those in abusive situations,” said Cheryl Jones, vice president of marketing and communications for the Child & Family Center. “While fundraising events are more challenging than ever in our current environment, we’re hoping that community members will ‘join together / while apart’ to support Child & Family Center’s Virtual Purple Walk.
Funds raised from the event, will help provide crisis shelter and supportive services to families seeking safety through our Domestic Violence Program. Current sponsors include, Taylor Kellstrom Real Estate, Santa Clarita Magazine, SCVTV, Signal SCV, KHTS Hometown Station. Please contact the Center at 661-255-6847 x3018 if you’d like to join them and support this important cause.
The event kick-off will take place via Facebook live at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17. Join us virtually online for live videos, music and more. Suggested routes will be available through a downloadable map, including options for trails or the paseos. All walk/runs must be completed between October 17-24, 2020.
Registration is $35 per person and includes t-shirt, medal and swag bag. Stride solo or with your family, while social distancing, in honor of survivors. Registration Swag Bag Pickup is October 16, from 3-7pm at Child & Family Center. For more information and to register, visit
