JCI Santa Clarita 100 Miles for $100 Benefitting Mental Health
JCI Santa Clarita also known as Junior Chamber International of Santa Clarita is at it again, trying to bring positive change and impact to the Santa Clarita Community. On September 1st, they are kicking off their project/challenge 100 Miles in 100 Days. During this challenge, the Jaycee’s are asking participants to register on an app call Endomondo to track the miles they walk, run, bike, swim or any physical activity that tracks mileage till they hit 100 miles. This effort comes in the wake of mental health struggles that our communities are encountering during a stagnant time of COVID-19.
“We want to get people active and moving” said, JCI Santa Clarita President Sharlene Duzick. “When individuals are physically active, they have a tendency to feel good, which changes their whole environment and mental outlook.” Additionally, the Jaycees want to help foster something to look forward to for participants as well. “When you have goals and milestones to meet, you get excited and feel a sense of accomplishment after you have met or exceed them,” according to JCI Santa Clarita Membership Vice President Joe Bealer. JCI Santa Clarita is building in a bi-monthly check-in with raffles for those who complete the mileage of at least a mile per day by the check-in dates to keep participants engaged.
On top of being physically activity, the Jaycees are also asking registrants to raise $100 each that will help support SRD Strengthening Reins. SRD Strengthening Reins is a non-profit organization that specializes in equine-assisted and interactive therapies designed to improve adolescent and teen mental health and well-being. Deborah Rocha founded SRD Strengthening Reins in 2011 after she lost her daughter Samantha Rocha-Dyer to mental health challenges.
Join JCI Santa Clarita today to participate and focus on your physical activity, mental health and support of others that are struggling during these difficult times. Contact Joe Bealer or Sharlene Duzick joebealer@gmail.com /sharleneduzick@gmail.com
