A Message from Senator Scott Wilk

Bah Humbug may be the greeting many folks channeled this holiday season. It is certainly a different one. This last year it feels like California had a giant lump of coal in its Christmas stocking, but the New Year could bring us some brighter days.
When I reflect on my December, 2019 vision of 2020, it didn’t include masks, social distancing or a nation reeling under the personal and economic fallout of a pandemic. But then again, if I am being philosophical, every year there are both good and bad things we don’t anticipate. 2020 seemed to be heavy on the bad. It is heartbreaking.
Looking to 2021, I am keeping my focus on my blessings. A year or so ago my family was battling cancer – both my wife and my son. Today they both remain in good health. And for that, I am eternally thankful.
While the nation has been reeling from the effects of the pandemic, I hold hope that we are turning a corner. The new Valencia testing center will provide much needed services to California, as well as good jobs for our area. The announcement of a vaccine brings a sense of relief – as if the end of the tunnel is in sight. It is a long tunnel, but there at least appears to be an end.
So for now, I am taking the coal out of California’s Christmas stocking and focusing on my blessings, my family and a brighter 2021 for all of us.
