Zonta Club Launches Service Project to End Human Trafficking
Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley has been actively working on their new service project, “Human Trafficking Survivor Backpacks”. Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world. Women and girls are overwhelmingly the victims of sex trafficking. Zonta International USA Caucus, in connection with the United Nations, is working to end human trafficking.
Zonta Club of SCV is contributing locally by working with local law enforcement. The club will provide the backpacks to the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Department who would carry them in their patrol cars so that they can be given to rescued human trafficking survivors.
The backpacks will contain emergency personal comfort items. They will provide a lifeline for the girls and women who are rescued from their trafficker. The human trafficking survivors have nothing of their own other than the clothes on their backs. If you would like to help purchase items for the “Human Trafficking Survivor Backpack Project”, please visit: www.scvzonta.org/advocacy-and-awareness
The following items are needed: loose-fitting knit pants, t-shirts, hoodies, underwear (boy-cut style), socks, sports bras, slider sandals (not flip-flops), hairbrushes & hair ties, female hygiene products, tissues, masks, small stuffed animals, journals & pens, small blankets (approx. 50 x 60 in.), travel-size toiletries (without hotel logos): shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, lip balms, hand sanitizers.
We also have an Amazon Charity Wish List for this project: https://smile.amazon.com/hz/charitylist/ls/RW4R31ZHAMEU
