Celebrating Pride In the SCV
In June of 2019, long-time SCV resident and activist Malcolm Blue pioneered the Santa Clarita city council to officially declare June as Pride month. This declaration was renewed in June of 2020 for every year from now on. This was a huge step in recognizing and hearing the voices of the LGBTQ population in Santa Clarita. Here are a few organzations if you or anyone in your family needs it.
PFLAG SCV
PFLAG is the first and largest organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender , and queer (LGBTQ+) people, their parents and families, and allies. Our local chapter, PFLAG SCV usually meets via Zoom or in person on the 4th Wednesday of the month in the multi purpose room at St. Stephens Church on Orchard Village Rd. Our local chapter was founded in the 1980’s and continues to thrive and grow. You can connect with us on Instagram @pflag.scv, Facebook https://www.facebook.com/pflagscv, website pflagscv.net, and email info@pflag.net. We rely on membership dues to run our programs. Membership is $20 for student, $35 for individual and $50 for family. You can make a donation or join at paypal.me/pflagscv.
Queer SCV
The purpose of Queer SCV is to reduce social isolation by stimulating community development through the creation of inclusive, intersectional events and spaces for the LGBTQ+ population in Santa Clarita Valley.
Currently, the majority of our events are queer-centered and for LGBTQIA+ adults, but we do occasionally have all ages events and events where allies of the queer community are welcome to attend.
For more information subscribe to our Google Calendar, follow our accounts on social media @QueerSCV or sign up for our email newsletter!
Queer SCV is a 501(c)(3) public-benefit corporation. Donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law. Queer SCV’s federal tax identification number is 84-2653170.
SCV LGBTQ Center
Founded around the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, April 2020, the SCV LGBTQ Center was a budding seed that began to take root in the minds of Finley Walker as he pondered the lack of structured resources and community in Santa Clarita, Finley’s hometown and place of residence for over 20 years. He set to work and spread the word, quickly gaining a passionate following and the support of several organizations such as Queer SCV and PFLAG of SCV.
The Center recruited several incredible members and allies of the local LGBTQ community to work towards the goal of establishing a permanent location in Santa Clarita to home the SCV LGBTQ Center.
