My Summer Camp Memories
Summer is almost here, and it has me reminiscing about so many summers that have passed. Being a new mom and thinking of all the fun activities I can do with my son this year, I realized just how incredibly fortunate I was to be able to spend all of my summers at the barn. Our barn is secluded and in an incredibly private gated community, so my parents never had a single fear bringing me up first thing in the morning and leaving me there until nightfall forced me to finally come home. I used to spend the days in the dirt, riding, grooming anything and everything with fur that would let me brush it, climbing trails and then sliding down the hills on cardboard boxes, playing hide and seek with my barn friends, slipping on my bathing suit and riding the horses through the sprinkles laughing until it hurt. I used to pack three meals for the day because I would get so much exercise running all around so my appetite throughout the day was fierce. When you are at the barn you don’t think about if your clothes are “cool” or care what your image is in that moment. Everyone is dirty and just so happy to be around the horses. It levels the social playing field and brings everyone down to their roots. I remember when I’d have trouble with friends or bullies at school the barn was my happy place. It was always safe and a place that was free of judgment or criticism. I formed relationships with people that I still have in my life today and animals that will forever be in my heart. It built confidence in me that nothing else could have. I can care for, train and love a 1500 lb. horse then I can do anything, well it sure seems that way when you are a young child. I am so ecstatic that my son will have those same opportunities as I did. I am so blessed to have this happy place to offer him. I am so thrilled that my family owns this little slice of heaven that we can share with families and generations to come. Our summer camp is the perfect introduction into this amazing world of horses and wholesome fun.
