JCI Santa Clarita Initiates School Supply Drive

JCI Santa Clarita’s New Community Impact Project Aims to Provide 500 Students in the Santa Clarita Valley with School Supplies for the 2021-2022 School Year and is Seeking Community Support.
JCI Santa Clarita’s newest community impact project, “Pack to School” is the first-ever school supply drive hosted by the organization. Modeled after their incredibly successful annual Santa’s Helpers event, Pack to School aims to provide backpacks, notebooks, pencils, and other school supplies to underserved children in the Santa Clarita Valley. Pack to School is co-chaired by JCI Santa Clarita members Cindy Curtis, Taylor Kellstrom, and Grant Guthrie.
“Going back to school should be exciting for kids. The past school year has been a challenging time for so many families, and kids pick up on that,” said Cindy Curtis. “We hope to help with the burden a bit, provide a little relief to parents, and bring back the joy of returning to school after the summer break.”
JCI Santa Clarita is looking to partner with the community, local businesses, organizations, and individuals to raise funds and donations to provide backpacks filled with school supplies to local students. Taylor Kellstrom weighed in on how the community can help. “Our goal is to provide 500 children backpacks full of school supplies in the fall. No matter how big or small, we have a role for you. Currently, we are seeking sponsors and donation drop-off locations. The overwhelming support that JCI receives from the community is what makes our events possible.”
Starting the weekend of June 25, 2021, donation boxes will be distributed and hosted at over 20 Starbucks locations and other local businesses within the Santa Clarita Valley until August 1, 2021. Some items to be donated include, but are not limited to: Clothing store gift cards, Backpacks, Pencils (standard and wide), Colored pencils, Crayons (16 or 24 count), Notebooks (wide and college ruled), Composition Notebooks, Rulers, Safety Scissors, Plastic Pencil Boxes, Glue Bottles and Glue Sticks, Highlighters, Markers, Erasers, Pencil Sharpeners, Watercolor Paint Kits, 2-Pocket Plastic Folders, Index Cards, Dry Erase Marker, and Hand Sanitizers.
