Zonta Presents SCV Women in Film
The Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley announces “SCV Women in Film featuring LUNAFEST™”, a new project to improve educational and career opportunities in the film and entertainment industry for women in SCV.
Zonta’s innovative program includes two inaugural events. First, on Thursday evening, October 14, a Celebration at the Newhall parking rooftop to honor SCV women in the film industry, followed by an exclusive screening of the 2021 LUNAFEST, seven short films, By and About Women, Rated Equal™, at the beautiful new Newhall Laemmle Theaters.
The second event will be a 3-hour Conference at College of the Canyons University Center on Saturday morning, October 16. The event will feature industry professionals sharing how to Get In and Get Ahead in the local film and related industries. This event is free of charge for participants and is designed for young local women who aspire to find a place within this important economic opportunity.
The entertainment industry has become a major economic engine in the Santa Clarita Valley. About half of the filming in L.A. County takes place in the Santa Clarita Valley. In addition to jobs making films such as studio executives, directors, producers, writers, editors, and so on, there are many other careers associated with filmmaking such as handling locations, media storage, product placement, props, stunts, and more. In Santa Clarita, women work in all these fields. In fact, many SCV entertainment industry companies are owned, operated and/or managed by women, and Zonta’s new project seeks to increase entry and employment opportunities in the film industry for SCV women.
Zonta invites participation in this new and exciting program in several ways:
First, Zonta requests nomination for recognition at the Celebration of the local women already serving in leadership positions in the entertainment industry and related businesses. A fillable nomination form is available at www.scvzonta.org/lunafest.
Second, Zonta invites you to attend and support the Celebration and enjoy the work of award-winning filmmakers at the 2021 LUNAFEST. The Celebration will feature a stunning view of the Santa Clarita Valley along with a glittering wine and mimosa bar and small plate hors d’oeuvres, immediately followed by the LUNAFEST screening at the adjacent Newhall Laemmle Theaters. Individual tickets for the Celebration and LUNAFEST screening are $100, and sponsorships are available at www.scvzonta.org/lunafest.
Third, Zonta invites local women who wish to get into or get ahead in the entertainment industry to attend the free conference, featuring discussions on pathways to enter the industry and ways to succeed. The conference is free, but seating is limited, and registration is required also at www.scvzonta.org/lunafest.
Since 1974, the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley has been a dynamic organization of professional women working together to advance the status of women and girls in the SCV and around the world. The club has been empowering women through service and advocacy, grants, and scholarships. The new SCV Women in Film project will advance women in the male-dominated careers associated with film, media, and entertainment in the Los Angeles County area.
