NAACP Presents SCRUM Red Carpet Premiere
Unfortunately, college is a fleeting dream for many minorities and underprivileged High School youth. For students of color the roadblocks begin long before they reach their senior year. These students are known as the ‘Special Population’ and too many of them live at or below the poverty line. Currently, 39.5% of Hart High School students fit into this category, making college nearly impossible for many of them.
On October 10, 2021, the NAACP Santa Clarita branch will hold a Red Carpet Movie Premiere of a documentary called SCRUM. This film shares the compelling and heartwarming journey of the first African American coach to take a team of disadvantaged youth all the way to the NCAA Rugby Championship. This is a Fundraiser for our Santa Clarita branch that will not only create scholarships for deserving youth but equally important, will fulfill dreams of a continuing education. One of the goals of the NAACP is to inspire change in our community by being the catalyst that advocates for a more inclusive and equitable life for people of color…this film does just that!
We invite you to come out, spend time with the main characters, producers, and directors of this powerful movie and learn what inspired them to live and tell this story. We would be honored by your presence at this event. If you are unable to attend, please consider purchasing a ticket for donation to this worthy cause.
