You’re Invited! SCV Walk to End Alzheimer’s October 2 Hundreds of Walkers Expected to Participate
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is scheduled for Saturday, October 2nd in Bridgeport Park, and you’re invited! This event is a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association where funds raised go toward support for families and research to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. There is no cost to attend the event, and if you raise $100 or more you receive a free tshirt.
“The event will be fun for the whole family with a kidz zone, sponsor booths, breakfast snacks and a promise flower garden where you can honor loved ones” said Walk Chairperson Stephanie Wallace, Director at Mellady Direct Marketing, a major supporter of the event. “We all walk because the Alzheimer’s Association is leading the way to find a cure, and local communities like Santa Clarita are a huge part of making that cure happen.”
More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
“We’re looking forward to an amazing event, we have already raised over $85,000 and we are on track to surpass our fundraising goal!” said Wallace. “We have a great committee of volunteers that are passionate about bringing the community together safely and changing the course of this disease.”
On Walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. The colors of the Promise Garden flowers represent people’s connection to Alzheimer’s — their personal reasons to end the disease.
