Uke A Ladies and Gents: A Mission of Philanthropy Through Music – Assistance League
The Uke A Ladies and Gents, a ukulele group born out of enthusiasm and communal spirit, stands as a testament to the power of music to touch lives and bring communities together. Their Assistance League® journey, stretching over a decade, has not only been mastering the chords of their ukuleles butal so creating an integration of philanthropy that resonates deeply within the hearts of those they perform for.
The creation of the Uke A Ladies and Gents was sparked by a moment of inspiration encountered at a National Assistance League® conference attended by Mamie Kosaka and Durinda Evanoff. Learning to play the ukulele, as it turned out, was more than just picking up a new hobby for the Uke A Ladies. The need to formalize their gatherings into a philanthropic endeavor became evident as they sought to share their music beyond entertainment, aiming to serve and uplift their community,
Why philanthropy? The answer lies in the Assistance League of Santa Clarita vision, Transforming Lives · Strengthening Community. The Uke A Ladies and Gents serve as musical ambassadors, using their musical talents to reach out to community members, especially the elderly in senior centers, senior living facilities and children in schools.Through their performances, the Uke A Ladies and Gents not only entertain but also engage with their audiences, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
The audience’s reaction has been a consistent show of love and appreciation. Engaging those audiences by using a songbook, the Uke A Ladies and Gents have made their performances interactive. This ensures that even in the most intimate of settings like a board and care facility, everyone feels a part of the musical journey.
