Philanthropy by the Numbers – Assistance League Santa Clarita
Operation School Bell® is the most extensive philanthropic program of Assistance League® of Santa Clarita. From July 2024 to May 2025, we provided over $200,000.00 in school clothes and shoes to 2,178 children from 40 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 9 high/continuation public schools in the Santa Clarita Valley. Our member volunteers have dedicated 1,259 volunteer hours from July through May, resulting in 9 Sundays of shopping, to ensure that students and their families receive a welcoming and supportive shopping experience. Our Assistance League chapter partners with JCPenney and their fantastic staff for the shopping location.
As impressive as these numbers are, they are not the only measure of Operation School Bell’s success. Success is measured in the smiles of the children as they come in excited to shop for new school clothes and shoes, sometimes for the first time they have had this experience. It’s the teenager who can now purchase that pair of Levi jeans, which was previously impossible. Success is measured by the students who share with their school counselor the new outfits they now have and the teacher who no longer sees students wearing the same clothes, day after day. Success is measured by the smiles on the family’s faces, the hugs given to our volunteers, and the thank-yous expressed as they exit the door with their items in hand.
Our volunteers recognize that when a child, regardless of age, attends school wearing new clothes, the likelihood of school success increases. The Assistance League Resale store is the primary source of funding for Operation School Bell. Its staff is entirely volunteer, and its contents are fun to explore while providing excellent value. Thus, when you volunteer or shop at The Resale Store, you make a difference in the community.
The store is located at 26045 Bouquet Canyon Road. The hours for shopping and donation are posted on the website: assistanceleaguesantaclarita.org. We look forward to seeing you there.
