Culture Comes to COC at the SCV Jewish Food Festival
If you crave kugel like Bubbe used to make, are looking for some good corned beef, or just need a bagel and a shmear, then the SCV Jewish Food and Cultural Festival is the place for you. Temple Beth Ami and Congregation Beth Shalom are proud to be co-hosting the Santa Clarita Valley’s Third Annual SCV Jewish Food and Cultural Festival (previously billed as the SCV Jewish Food Festival) on Sunday, May 15 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.
ACS Legacy of Hope Gala Save the Date, August 14
The American Cancer Society has set the date for their third annual Legacy of Hope Gala to honor community leaders who provide critical support in their cancer research, education, and patient services programs. This year’s event, Imagine—More Birthdays!, will be held Sunday, August 14, 5 p.m., at Robinson Ranch Golf Club.
Santa Clarita Named a “City of the Future” City Recognized by International Finance Magazine as a Top Choice for Business
The City of Santa Clarita recently received recognition from fDi, an international Finance Magazine in their 2011/2012 American Cities of the Future Awards. The City was one of the top three communities recognized in the Small Cities of the Future category and earned a Top 10 ranking in the Small Cities, fDi Strategy category.
A subsidiary publication of the Financial Times Business Group, the corporate investment journal compiled their “City of the Future” shortlists based on a handful of criteria, including economic potential, quality of life, and business friendliness.

Life is a… Cabaret at The REP
One of the most recognized and celebrated musicals of all time will make its mark on the Repertory East Playhouse on May 13. The production, sponsored by Josh Rivas and Profiles Salon, and directed by Mark Kaplan explores the chaotic time period leading up to Nazi rule of Germany and an intimate form of theatre, called Cabaret.
Flashback to the 80’s with the Boys & Girls Club
Everyone remembers the totally awesome 80’s, when Michael Jackson sported the leather jacket, white glove, invented the Moonwalk, and Thriller was all over MTV. Madonna was a ground breaking female artist, Dj Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince became known and movies like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Back to the Future and Top Gun were Hollywood blockbusters.
Hart Park to Host 2011 SCV Armed Forces Day Festival
The Friends of Hart Park have partnered with several Santa Clarita Valley Veteran organizations to host the 2011 SCV Armed Forces Day Festival on Saturday, May 21 at 11 a.m. South 40 Country, Guitar Merchant and Revival will be performing live music throughout the day. Barbeque will be provided by the Sons of the Legion.
Special Mother’s Day Services at NorthPark
Sunday, May 8 is Mother’s Day. All over the city of Santa Clarita, families will come together to celebrate the very special women who’ve nurtured and loved them. At NorthPark Community Church, Mother’s Day is a day set apart to honor all the women in our midst. We know that many are Mothers (or Grandmothers) and their contribution to their families is hard to measure and valuable beyond what they may experience on any given day.

Bikes and Bites Event Invites Local Riders to Explore Canyon Country Community
In May, the College of the Canyons Canyon Country campus, with support from the City of Santa Clarita, will host a community fun ride and food festival designed to inspire local cycling enthusiasts to get back on the bike and explore the Canyon Country community.
Bikes and Bites: A Canyon Country Campus Food Fest and Fun Ride will be held Saturday, May 14, in anticipation of the upcoming Amgen Tour of California — particularly the race’s Stage 8 start, being held May 22, in Santa Clarita.

The Santa Clarita Ballet Company Dances Outside the Box
On June 18 the Santa Clarita Ballet Company will present ballet to the community in a way SCV has not yet experienced: outdoors, in contemporary form, to live jazz, and free to the public.
Performing at CalArts Wild Beast, the Santa Clarita Ballet Company will be the opening act for the 2011 inaugural season of Santa Clarita’s new Summer Music Series, a free event presented at a variety of venues throughout town this summertime.
One Day, One Night, One Community, One Fight
Come join the 2011 Relay For Life Castaic on Saturday, May 14 and Sunday May 15 at the beautiful and picturesque Castaic Lake. Residents, friends and family will come together for the life-changing event to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember those lost to the disease and fight back against the disease.
Castaic Lake will host its inaugural Relay For Life beginning with the Opening Ceremony at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.
A Race to the Finish Line 2011 Amgen Tour of California
Cyclists and fans, get ready as the 2011 Amgen Tour is finally here! Hundreds of professional cyclists will return to our city for the fourth time, as Santa Clarita will host the start of the final stage of the race on Sunday, May 22. We, at The Magazine of Santa Clarita and élite Magazine, are so pleased to be a part of this event. Prime Publications, Inc. has partnered up with the City of Santa Clarita and will be producing the official program for this year’s Amgen Tour of California.
This eight day Tour de France-style cycling road race, presented by AEG, will feature elite professional teams and athletes from all around the world, including Tour de France top competitors, world champions and Olympic medalists, and will begin on May 15 and run through May 22.
The Power of Love
“Anything is Possible: Act Accordingly,” these are the words on the email signature line of Kim Bolewski and the motto her husband Tom Bolewski and their family have lived by for the last three-and-a-half years. Tom and Kim and their three adult sons, Chris, Danny and Alex (who is presently serving in the US Marines) were living the good life in Santa Clarita; owning their own electrical contracting firm, participating in youth and adult sports, (Tom was an avid cyclist and member of the Santa Clarita Velo riding club) volunteering in the community and enjoying their Mountainview neighborhood when tragedy struck.
Actors of All Ages Needed For COC Theatre Department’s Summer Sci-Fi Musical
Actors of all ages — from children to adults — are invited to audition for the College of the Canyons theatre department’s musical production of Lois Lowry’s award-winning science fiction novel, The Giver, being staged this summer in partnership with the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) and the Festival of New American Musicals.

The SC Ballet Presents Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass
The Santa Clarita Ballet Company & Academy will present Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass in two performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday June 11, 2011 at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons. Tickets will go on sale May 2nd. Advanced ticket purchase is highly recommended as shows do sell out quickly. Tickets are not sold through the Performing Arts Center for this event.
