Happy Chinese New Year February 14 is declared SCV Chinese Culture Day
The Chinese New Year is one of the most important traditional Chinese holidays. Often called the Lunar New Year, it celebrates the beginning of a new year with big family gatherings, gift giving, the eating of foods and the display of festive decorations. The Chinese New Year is based off of the Chinese calendar consisting of the Gregorian and lunar-solar calendar systems. Since the lunar calendar is based upon phases of the moon, the Chinese New Year is never on the same day each year, however it does fall anywhere between late January and mid February.

Family of Three Escapes Slavery
Desperation leads to some of the worst decisions imaginable. Oftentimes, the victims of such poor choices are the innocent children involved in desperate situations. This was the case with one very sick mother of three in the Hmong Village of Chiang Mai, Thailand, whose children narrowly escaped a lifetime of enslavement thanks to the ZOE Child Rescue Team (CRT).

It’s A New Year
The common thread for most people for the New Year is resolutions. There are the personal promises to better your health and improve your character; vows that carry hope for a better year than the one that just ended. I believe that 2010 will be an improvement over 2009. At least, that is what experts are saying and I choose to be optimistic. However, I know that will not be the case budget-wise for California’s public schools.
